What do I need to use Dozi?
Two compatible iPhones or iPads with Dozi installed, both connected to the same Wi-Fi network. One stays near your baby, the other stays with you. Check the App Store listing for the current iOS and iPadOS requirements.
Do both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
Yes. Dozi connects your baby device and your parent device directly over your local Wi-Fi network, which is why the video never needs to go through a cloud server.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login, so there is no password to steal. You pair the two devices by scanning a QR code.
Is my video uploaded or recorded?
No. Video and audio go directly from the baby device to your paired parent device on your Wi-Fi and never leave your home. Dozi does not record or store them, and there is no cloud.
Is the connection between the two devices secure?
Yes. Dozi streams over WebRTC, which always encrypts audio and video (DTLS-SRTP). On top of that, each monitoring session gets a new one-time secret code, shared only through the QR code on the baby device. The baby device refuses any device that cannot present it.
Can someone else on my Wi-Fi watch my baby?
Not without scanning the QR code on the baby device. Only the parent device that scanned this session’s code can connect; any other phone, tablet or computer on the network is turned away. When you start a new session, the previous code no longer works.
Can anyone at Dozi see my baby?
No. There is no Dozi server that receives your video or audio, so there is nothing for us, or anyone else, to look at. Nothing is recorded.
Do I need a cloud plan or any other service?
No. There is no cloud storage plan, no account and no third-party service to sign up for, and no extra hardware to buy. You need two iPhones or iPads and your home Wi-Fi. Dozi itself is free to download and free to try.
Will I be alerted when my baby cries and my phone is locked?
Yes. Allow notifications when Dozi asks, start watching, then lock your phone. When the baby device hears sustained sound, the parent device shows a notification. Keep Dozi running in the background rather than force-quitting it.
Will a cough or a door slam set off an alert?
Dozi is built to ignore short sounds. It alerts on sound that keeps going, like crying, and learns steady background noise such as a white-noise machine so that it is not mistaken for crying.
Can I talk to my baby?
Yes. Hold the talk button on the parent device and your baby hears you through the baby device. Release it to stop.
Which soothing sounds can I play?
White noise, rain, ocean waves, a heartbeat and a lullaby. They play on the baby device, with volume control and an optional sleep timer of 15 minutes, 30 minutes or 1 hour.
Does Dozi work on iPad?
Yes. Either device can be an iPhone or an iPad, in any combination.
What happens to the screen on the baby device?
While streaming, the baby device dims its screen to black after a few seconds without a touch, so it does not light up the nursery. Tap it to show the controls again. We recommend keeping the baby device plugged in; the parent device shows its battery level.
Is Dozi free?
Dozi is free to download and free to try. Every feature works for your first 3 days, with nothing to buy and no payment details to enter. After that, you can choose a plan in the app; the App Store shows the price in your country before you confirm anything.
Is Dozi a medical device?
No. Dozi is a video and audio monitor. It does not track breathing, heart rate or oxygen, and it does not replace adult supervision or safe sleep practices.
